MiG crashes in Assam; pilot safe

New Delhi June 18(ANI): Yet another Mig 21 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed near

Chabua in Assam. The pilot is said to be safe.ccording to an Indian Air Force communiqué, the fighter jet that took off from the Chabua airbase, around 1400 hrs, for a routine training- flying mission, crashed immediately after take off near the airbase after it experienced a technical snag.

The pilot of the aircraft, however, managed to eject out of the cockpit to safety, after reporting the technical error to the airbase.

The Russian made type 77 aircrafts, which are also known as coffin boxes are used by the IAF for training its pilots.

Today's crash is the sixth accident suffered by the IAF this year.

Eearlier in the year, the IAF had lost a Kiran MK-II trainer aircraft of Surya Kiran team in Januray, a Sukhoi in April, MiG-27 and MiG-21 Byson in May, and an AN-32 in June. (ANI)
