Written by: Staff

Bokaro, Jun 13: A massive combing operation has been launched to apprehend the Naxals who targeted security personnel in Bokaro district on Friday, Jun 12 killing up to 11 policemen.

The Maoists, who have forced a shutdown in six States, including Jharkhand, attempted to loot the State Bank of India (SBI) branch at Phusro after money was brought there from the Bermo branch of the bank, said Bokaro's Superintendent of Police, LP Singh on Friday, Jun 12.

As two policemen of the escort party stepped out of the bank after depositing the money, the Maoists attacked them and killed them, he added.

At least seven other police personnel were killed, when the anti-landmine vehicle in which they were rushing to the spot got blown off after it ran over an IED at Nawadih, 31 kilometres away.

The killed were part of the additional reinforcements being rushed to the spot.

At least 11 security men had lost their lives on Wednesday, Jun 11 in a landmine blast in West Singhbhum district.
