There is no shift in US Policy on Kashmir, says Menon
New Delhi, June 12 (ANI): Indian Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon said here today that he did not 'see any shift in the US policy on Kashmir".
Menon was commenting on the statement here of US Under Secretary for Political Affairs William Burns that " Kashmir issue should be resolved according to the aspirations of the Kashmir people."
"Such statements were made in the past. It will be made in the future. But there is no shift in the US policy," Menon added.
Over the years, Islamabad has been trying to link the issue with regional developments and raise it in international forums. But the Indian leadership believes that Kashmir issue has no bearing on the volatile situation in the region.
Raising the subject of Kashmir recently, Pakistan Premier Yusuf Raza Gilani had stated a solution to the issue was necessary to ensure regional peace.
Burns assertion on Kashmir comes at a time when United States is pitching for the resumption of dialogue between the two nuclear neighbours which has been stalled since 26/11 Mumbai attacks. By Naveen Kapoor (ANI)
