Paris, Jun 10: Air France said that the speed sensors of all its flights using long-haul Airbus jets will be equipped immediately with new speed sensors. This initiative was taken keeping in view of the recent AF 447 crash in the Atlantic Ocean.

The pitot tubes that gauge speed have become the focus of an investigation into the crash after messages showed they provided 'inconsistent' data to the pilots and might have played a role in the Jun 1 crash. The Air France AF 447 which went missing on May 31, reportedly crashed into the Atlantic killing 228 on board. The plane was flying from Rio de Janerio of Brazil to Paris (France). Later Brazilian and French search team discovered the remains of crashed aircraft and bodies in the Atlantic.

AF 447 had send 24 automated messages in its final minutes on Jun 1, detailing a rapid series of system failures. A union of Air France pilots refused to fly AirBus A330, A340 till the speed sensors are replaced.
