AF 447 crash: Search team recovers 17 bodies

Sao Paulo, Jun 8: Henry Munhoz, Brazilian Air Force spokesman said that the search teams on Sunday, Jun 8 have recovered the 17 bodies from the Air France Flight AF 447 that plunged into the Atlantic Ocean on May 31.

He also said that out of the bodies recovered four were of male and four were female, but could not identify the sex of the remaining nine victims. The other bodies and hundreds of objects had been sighted in the area, about 1,200 km north east of the Brazilian coastline.

The bodies and remaining parts of the plane were being taken to the Brazilian island of Fernando de Noronha and were due to arrive there on Monday, Jun 8.

Meanwhile, French prime minister Francois Fillon on Sunday, Jun 7 named Pierre- Jean Vandoorne as an ambassador for the victim's families. He is said to assist the relatives of the 216 passengers from 32 countries.

Fillon's office said, "An intensive search for the other victims and for the aeroplane itself is under way in the area, with 15 planes - nine Brazilian, five French and one American."
