Bhopal, June 4 (ANI): A three-year old tigress died at Van Vihar National Park in Bhopal.

According to the veterinarian attached to the zoo, the tigress, 'Era' died late on Tuesday night when the intended vomit wrongly entered the lungs through the wind gullet and aggravated the lungs.

"It is seen some times in children also that when they vomit, wrongly it enters the wind gullet. So in this case also the vomit entered into the lungs of the animal, which damaged them and became the reason of its death," said Dr. A B Srivastava, veterinarian, Van Vihar National Park, Bhopal.

The big cat was brought to the park in 2006 from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve when it was just five-month old.

Since Era had no history of ailment, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Wildlife of Madhya Pradesh, has constituted a committee to probe the lapses in death of the striped beauty.

"The whole incident will be investigated. We have constituted a committee under A B Srivastava, a veterinarian, which will also include personnel of DI lab and...They will investigate if there were any lapses in management and other things," said H S Pabla, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Wildlife, Madhya Pradesh.

India has half the world's surviving tigers, but their number has declined usually poached by the forest mafia catering to the demand for tiger skins and also bones and other parts believed to be used in certain Oriental medicine formulations. (ANI)
