HRCP blames Musharraf for Swat crisis
Islamabad, Jun.4 (ANI): The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has held former President General Pervez Musharraf responsible for the Swat crisis.
In its report, the HRCP blamed Musharraf for following a policy of appeasement with extremists in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) despite knowing they were expanding their writ in the region.
The report said Musharraf not only extended security to terrorists, but also provided arms and financial aid to them, The News reports.
After the 9/11 incident Musharraf helped the militants to regroup and oraganise themselves in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) by providing them a safe haven in the region, it stated.
"Religious fanatics were supported for two decades and they were handed safe heavens and hideouts in FATA," the report adds. (ANI)
