SL holds victory parade to mark LTTE defeat
Colombo, Jun 3: The military officials said that Sri Lanka was staging a military victory parade to mark the defeat of the Tamil Tiger rebels on Wednesday, Jun 3.
Mahinda Rajapaksha, president of Sri Lanka was said to preside over the celebrations at the sea-front Galle Face promenade. A government official said, "This is a ceremony to symbolise the defeat of terrorism in the country."
Sri Lanka's military is said to parade its hardware and put on a fly past as part of the ceremonies. The Galle Face area had been declared off limits for traffic since Monday ahead of the ceremonies.
