Timothy Roemer, new US envoy to India: Obama

Washington, May 28: Replacing, Bush administration's nominee David Mulford, US president Barack Obama has nominated a distinguished scholar and former democratic congressman Timothy Roemer to be his envoy in India.

Obama also named envoys to Sri Lanka and Japan. He said, "the ambassadors will strengthen our partnerships abroad at this critical time for our nation and the world."

Timothy Roemer, 52-year old, born in South Bend, Indiana graduated from the University of California in 1979. He earned his MA and PhD from the University of Notre Dame. He has served in investigating on the 11/9 attacks on the US and on a key committee to prevent nuclear proliferation.

Roemer, now serves in the commission set up for the prevention of weapons of mass destruction and terrorism created by the US Congress in 2007. In addition, Roemer also serves in the Washington Institute on combating the ideology of radical extremism and the national parks second century commission.

Obama also named Patrica Butenis, a carrer diplomat to be the ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives and John Roos, longtime technology-focused lawyer as US ambassador to Japan
