Islamabad, May 28: Tehrik-i-Taliban Punjab, a group that reportedly has links with the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the Lahore suicide attack that took place on Wednesday, May 27.

The Pakistan government earlier had blamed the Taliban for the attack saying that it was a revenge strike for the military offensive launched against them in Swat Valley.

"I believe that anti-Pakistan elements, who want to destabilise our country and see defeat in Swat, have now turned to our cities," Pakistan's interior minister, Rehman Malik said on Wednesday, May 27.

The attack interestingly took place near the offices of both the local police chief and of the national intelligence agency, the ISI. It also occurred when military operations raged against the militants in the North Western Frontier Province of the country. This brewed early speculations of Taliban's involvement in the attack and the reason being seen as a revenge strike.

The attack killed up to 24 people and injured about 300 people.
