Islamabad, May 18: Pakistan Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has said the Army would not be called back from the Swat Valley until peace is restored in the region completely.

Addressing an all party meeting here, Gilani said the security forces would only be called back from the region when peace and all the displaced people return to the valley.

"I want to also inform you that the army will stay in those areas until the displaced people return to their homes, and the situation becomes totally safe and peaceful," Gilani said.

Gilani urged all political parties to work together for a durable solution of the crises facing the nation.

"Unless political forces do not step into resolving the situation, there is no guarantee to a sustainable solution against terrorism and extremism," the Dawn quoted Gilani, as saying.

"I want to make it clear that the focus of our policies is only Pakistan, and nothing else. We are engaged in ensuring peace and prosperity of the country, with due patience," he added.

The Pakistan Army has claimed that over 1,000 militants have been killed in the offensive in the Taliban's Swat bastion, while nearly 50 soldiers have also been killed.

The offensive has also rendered at least 1.17 million people homeless.

The United Nations has also called for a massive international response to the worst humanitarian crisis that Pakistan is witnessing since its partition with India in 1947.
