New Delhi, May 14: Supreme Court of India on Thursday, May 14 ordered the Uttar Pradesh government to revoke National Security Act slapped on Varun Gandhi with immediate effect.

UP government under Mayawati had earlier slapped NSA on Varun Gandhi for inciting the mob during his arrest and for his highly inflammatory speeches against Muslims during his election campaign in Pilibhit. Varun is contesting the Lok Sabha elections in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket.

Mayawati government had challenged the UP advisory board's decision to revoke NSA on Varun. In its petition, the government has argued that the Advisory Board's decision was incorrect, as it had ignored several cogent evidences against Varun.

After hearing the verdict of SC, Varun said to media that slapping NSA on him was wrong. "I stand vindicated," Varun added.
