Probe Narendra Modi's role in 2002 Guj riots: SC
New Delhi, Apr 27: The Supreme Court of India on Monday, Apr 27 ordered Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate into the alleged role of Narendra Modi, the Gujarat Chief Minister in the 2002 riots. SC has asked the Raghavan Committee to probe Guj CM's role and submit report within three months.
The five-member SIT team is headed by R Raghavan, and includes former Deputy General of Police C D Satpathy and three Indian Police officers -- Geetha Johri, Shivanand Jha and Ashish Bhatia.
The Apex Court order came on a petition filed by social activist Teesta Setalvad and the wife of slain ex-MP, Ehsan Jaffri. A probe is also ordered into the roles of a cabinet minister in the Narendra Modi government, three MLAs, three Cishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists and several IAS and IPS officers as well.

order
Congress
party
asked
Modi
to
stepdown
taking
the
moral
responsibility
of
the
riots.
Teesta
Setalvad
said
that
Modi
was
hampering
the
probe
into
the
2002
Gujarat
riot
case.
"It's
a
huge
victory
because
this
is
an
indication
of
what
we
have
been
saying
for
almost
six
years
now.
The
police
had
used
Modi's
political
clout
to
delay
the
probe,
now
the
SC
has
renewed
faith
in
the
justice
system
by
saying
at
least
investigate
it," Teesta
told
to
a
TV
channel
after
the
court
order.
