Tigers warn govt: Risk of civilian starvation
Colombo, Apr 25: The Tiger rebels have warned that the thousands of civilians trapped in the embattled zone of the country face a potential risk of starvation.
The rebels said on Saturday, Apr 25 that the food stocks in the war zone is exhausting soon and has urged the government to send some food supply for the civilians.
However, the government has banned any aid to that region of the country since last year and maintained that it is at the verge of completing this 25 year old conflict.
There are no solid numbers as to how many civilians are trapped in the zone, the UN has estimated about 50,000 people while the government estimates 15,000 to 20,000.
