Top LTTE leaders Daya Master, George surrender
Colombo, Apr 22: Two top leaders of LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) Daya Master and George have surrendered to the Sri Lanka Army according to the Defence Ministry. With this the number of LTTE members having given into the army has reached 3,000.
Velayudam Thayanidhi aka Daya Master the media coordinator of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and George a translator have surrendered with their families in the no-fire zone of Puthumathalan area where the army is on a flushing out mission.
Over 95,000 civilians have been rescued by the Sri Lankan army in the past two days. The military has further advanced and captured fresh territories held by LTTE. "The LTTE has only an eight kilometre strip or about 12 to 14 square kilometres of land area left under their control... The government strongly believes that (the LTTE chief) Vellupillai Prabhakaran is still inside the no fire zone," Defence spokesman and Minister of Foreign Employment, Keheliya Rambukwella said.
