Jet hikes fuel surcharge, may cut 400 jobs
New Delhi, Apr 19: To cut costs and fight financial crunch, the private carrier Jet Airways on Saturday, Apr 18 hiked fuel surcharge on domestic flights by up to Rs 300. The increase in surcharge follows hike in Aviation Turbine Fuel last week. State-run oil companies had on Apr 15 raised prices of jet fuel for the third time in a month, by about 6.7 per cent.
Reports suggest that Naresh Goyal owned private carrier might close down some of its sales offices in major cities as part of its cost-cutting measures which may cut about 400 jobs. In a statement released earlier the company said, "The aviation industry is undergoing a severe crisis worldwide and Jet Airways is taking a proactive approach to improve its viability."
