Washington, Apr 15 (ANI): Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus has been honoured by the youth division of animal rights group PETA for her kindness towards chickens.

Cyrus, 16, has adopted one of the birds that featured in her new film 'Hannah Montana: The Movie', and even ensured that the rest of her poultry co-stars find good homes.

Her actions have earned her a Compassionate Citizen Award from PETA.

"She packed up a few of the birds and sent them home with her mother. Cyrus reportedly felt sorry for the chickens because they were sad to be working," Contactmusic quoted a PETA spokeswoman as saying.

"This isn't the first time that Cyrus has stepped in to help animals. Last year, she and her dad, Billy Ray, found a lost dog in her neighbourhood and stayed with the dog until he was reunited with his guardian," she added.

And even PETA boss Dan Shannon has been left impressed with her compassionate actions.

"Miley's heart is as big as her smile. We hope that her act of compassion will inspire her fans to be kind to animals too," he added.

Cyrus will receive a framed certificate and a card signed by PETA staffers. (ANI)
