London, Mar 28 (ANI): A British charity has asked Madonna to reconsider her apparent plans to adopt another Malawian child.

According to Save The Children, the 50-year-old is setting a bad example by attempting to adopt the tot.

The star is reportedly flying into Malawi tomorrow to begin adoption proceedings for Mercy James, a 4-year-old whom she picked out during a previous visit.

Mercy has spent the majority of her life in the Home of Hope orphanage in Mchinji, where Madonna also found her first adoptive child, David Banda.

Noe, Save The Children has said that Mercy should not be taken from Malawi.

"The best place for a child is in his or her family in their home community. Most children in orphanages have one parent still living or have an extended family that can care for them in the absence of their parents," The Telegraph quoted the charity's spokesman, Dominic Nutt, as saying.

"International adoption can actually exacerbate the problem it hopes to solve. The very existence of orphanages encourages poor parents to abandon children in the hope that they will have a better life.

"International adoption and the orphanages that often provide the children to adoptive parents from overseas can divert money that could be better spent keeping families together and preventing children from having to be taken away from their parents in the first place.

"We urge any celebrity to set an example, to follow internationally agreed procedures to protect the child, and to ensure that the child in question has no other options in their home community," the rep added.

As per Madonna's critics, the singer is using her wealth and celebrity to bypass Malawian law. (ANI)
