Kasav agrees he is a Pakistani

Mumbai, Mar 23: The lone terrorist of Mumbai Terror Attacks 2008, Azam Amir Kasav said that he was from Pakistan and he needs a lawyer for legal assistance representing him.

Kasav appeared before special judge M L Tahiliyani via video conferencing from the Arthur Road jail where he is presently lodged in a high security cell.

Mumbai police had formally charged Kasav with 'waging war' against India where more than 166 people were killed.

"He has confessed that he is from Pakistan and has also asked the court for legal assistance," Rakesh Maria, the chief investigator in the case, said.

Kasav was dressed in a grey T-shirt said : " If there will be a trial then I will need a lawyer". When questioned by the judge if he had any preference he said "Could you just call the lawyer, who appeared on my behalf on Nov 27"?

The hearing has concluded and the next date of the trial will be known shortly, Rakesh Maria said.
