Lahore, Mar 2 (ANI): PML-N president and former Chief Minister of Pakistan's Punjab province, Shahbaz Sharif, has said that Zardari tried to bury democracy alive in its infancy and would not escape from its dire consequences.

Speaking at the Hameed Nizami Day seminar on Sunday, he called for making the March 12 lawyers rally a success.

Shahbaz said that though "I am not a saint, but know that the soul of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto will be with us in the long march and sit-in to realise the dream vis-a-vis of restoration of the deposed judges and independence of judiciary in the country."

"Not only Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, but also PPP workers would join the 'long march' and sit-in to conform to the will of his legendary leader", he believed.

He announced not to attribute the march to any political personality, saying that the 'long march' will be held under the umbrella of the "Green Flag of Pakistan" and all political leaders including PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and JI chief Qazi Hussain, would be standing under it for the restoration of deposed judges.

Blasting Zardari's retraction from his promises, he said Zardari had been given a golden chance to restore his tainted image and atone for his past misdeeds, but had not availed the opportunity.

"Genuine nature of Zardari was exposed when he dishonoured the signed accords, saying the pacts are not sacred like Quranic verses to follow," Shahbaz said.

The Nation quoted Shahbaz as saying that international community is baffled by Zardari's attitude and approach. (ANI)
