New Delhi, Feb 25: The data released by govt of India for the year 2008 shows that about 5.7 lakh Indians were issued H1-B and other non-immigrant visas.

Infosys Technologies ( 2008-4559) tops the list of Indian IT companies who received maximum H1B work permits followed by Wipro (2008-2678), Satyam Computers (2008- 1917) and Tata Consultancy Services (2008 - 1539).

Indian software firms sent professionals to the US to serve clients such as Citibank, GE and Bank of America (BoA).

However, US President Barack Obama mentioning of 'no tax break' to outsourcing US companies can be a major blow to Indian IT sector. The US gives 65,000 H1B work visas every year and over 45,000 of them go to Indian professionals, mostly from the IT sector.
