Excerpts of Obama's speech in US Cong

Washington, Feb 25: US President Barack Obama on Tuesday, Feb 24 hailed his $787 billion bailout package and said that it is the first step to revive the economy.

He said that US will once again lead the world.

Following are the excerpts of Obama's maiden speech in the joint session of US Congress:

• Top priority will be given to Energy, Education and Health sectors

• Need renewable energy and efficient of use of all energy sources

• Government officials will be responsible for every money spent

• To clean up all credit issues

• Tax cut from April 1, 2009

• Tax cut to benefit 95 pc families in the USA

• No tax increase for families earning less than $2,50,000 per year

• No tax breaks for US firms that outsource their jobs abroad

• CEOs won't be allowed to use taxpayers' money

• Stimulus deal to create and save 3.5 million jobs

• Impact of recession is real and everywhere

• US will rebuild, recover and emerge stronger

• Banks must have confidence to give credit in difficult times

• Quality and affordable healthcare to be provided to all Americans

• Must update outdated regulation measures

• Won't let terrorists thrive in safe haven
