Srinagar, Feb 11 (ANI): Kahwa, a traditional tea of Jammu and Kashmir, keeps a person warm in the chilling weather of the valley.

It is made in Kashmiri Samovar (traditional kettle), a large decorated urn with burning coals underneath. Kahwa is a blend of chosen spices with tea.

"Kahwa is prepared using different kind of ingredients like saffron and almond. It is different from salted tea, tea or coffee," said Khurshed-ul-islam, a resident.

Saffron-flavoured green tea, Kahwa is garnished with almonds and pistachios. A cup of Kahwa can provide warmth on a cold evening and aid digestion too. Cinnamon and cardamom are also used in the preparation of Kahwa.

"Kahwa is really good to have during winters. Doctors also recommend this beverage to people during the season. It can cure the problem of sore throat and cold. People of every age group can drink this hot beverage," said Farooq, a shopkeeper.

Kahwa in Kashmir is served on occasions like marriages. Introduced in Kashmir by the Mughals, it is exported. By Parvez Butt (ANI)
