Having shandy on duty now off limits for UK cops
London, Feb.5 (ANI): British police officers have been warned not to have shandy while on duty, saying it will invite disciplinary action against them.
The top brass has said that officers seen drinking it by the public "would create the wrong impression".
According to the Daily Express, Leicestershire Police ordered the booze ban after a senior officer spotted a police constable eating fish and chips with a can of Shandy Bass.
The officer, who has not been named, protested that he had enjoyed the drink for "umpteen years" but bosses promptly issued a memo to staff saying shandy was off limits.
Rank-and-file officers slammed the decision. One said: "To be told that I'm not allowed to drink a can of what is classified as a soft drink makes me feel like a naughty child."
Kevan Allcock, of the Leicestershire Police Federation, said: "When I first heard about it, I treated it as a joke.
"You could drink a bathful of Shandy Bass and you still wouldn't be drunk." (ANI)
