Mumbai, Feb 4: Train services resumed back in Borivali station after a protest by angry commuters who blocked the trains after a 9:10 AM train was cancelled.

Around 12 lakh commuters were stranded at Borivali station due to the protest. Western Railways officials informed that two trains have started operating. Meanwhile, police had to resort to a minor lathicharge to control the angry crowd.

Train services on the suburban line of Western Railway were disrupted after some commuters blocked tracks demanding more trains.

"The protestors numbering in thousands blocked the tracks from 0918 hours and did not allow north or south bound services to operate from Borivali," a railway police official said.

The protests reportedly sparked off after a train was cancelled in the morning. Due to disruption of trains in suburban Andheri, many commuters had to resort to other modes of transport.

"I had to use a rickshaw to get to my workplace since it was not clear when the protest would end," a commuter said. BEST, the city's public bus service was provided outside Borivali. Over 63 lakh people everyday travel by the Western Railway line.
