New Delhi, Jan 31: The report of Central Election Commission recommending the dismissal of Election Commissioner Navin Chawla for 'partisan' has created crisis in the Election Commission.

In a new twist, Election Commissioner Navin Chawla has said that he will not quit despite the complaint against him. The dignity of the Constitutional body is paramount, Chawla added.

“The Commission has conducted flawless elections for the past several years. We will continue to do so.The dignity of the Commission is paramount," he said. "I am not even aware of the CEC recommendations. I do not want to say anything'. Chawla answered to a query on whether he intends to quit.

Gopalaswami had written to the president demanding Chawla's removal on charges of partisanship. Gopalswami's tenure would end in another two months, Chawla, the senior most, was considered as the natural choice for the top post when Gopalswami leaves office on April 20.

The recommendation is based on a petition by the BJP which had complained against the 'partisan' functioning of Chawla.
