Lt-Col Purohit gets bail in fake arms license case

Nashik, Nov 30: Leiutenant Colonel Prasad Shreekant Purohit, a prime accused in Malegaon blasts, was granted bail in a forged arms licence case by a local court here on Saturday, Nov 29.

Judicial Magistrate (First Class) V V Joshi granted bail to Lt Col Purohit at Rs 15000 in the case registered against him by one Pune-based Shirish Date. Lt Col Purohit, a serving Army officer, was accused of planting bombs in the Malegaon blasts alongwith procuring and supplying of RDX, and forged arms licence case. He was also booked under the various sections of MCOCA and was taken into custody on November 25 by Sarkarwada Police Station from MCOCA court, Mumbai. Purohit was presented in the court of JMFC the same day and was remanded to police custody till November 29.

Presenting him before the local court yesterday, public prosecutor Jyoti Pawar demanded police remand to further investigate the matter of modus operandi of getting the forged documents of arms licence.

Advocate Avinash Bhide, the defence lawyer, submitted that as the accused was in the custody for four days, police had enough time for interrogation and hence he should be remanded to magisterial custody.
