SC dismisses plea to book Raj under MCOCA
New Delhi, Nov 21: The Supreme Court on Friday, Nov 21 refused to entertain a petition seeking directions to the Maharashtra government to impose MCOCA on MNS chief Raj Thackeray for instigating violence against north Indians living in the state.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam asked the counsel for the petitioner, ''Is it the job of this court to tell police to arrest a particular person under a particular law? Can this court entertain such petition?'' NGO Yuva Shakti had filed a petition seeking directions from the apex court for arresting Raj Thackeray under MCOCA for indulging in divisive and regional politics, threatening national security and integrity.
However, the court was not impressed. The court permitted the counsel to withdraw the petition as the court was going to dismiss the same.
