Chennai, Sep 22: Actor-Politician and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) Vijaykant on Monday, Sep 22 denied any involvement in yesterday's attack on comedian Vadivelu's house and office at Virugambakkam in the city.

A day after police registered cases against him and his supporters under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC), including attempt to murder, Mr Vijaykant, addressing a press conference here, accused the police of foisting cases against him.

Asserting that the attack on Vadivelu's house and office was stage-managed and the party had nothing to do with it, he charged that the ruling DMK has instigated Mr Vadivelu and the police to foist cases against him, in connection with the attack case.

Denying the charge that his partymen had carried out the attack at his instigation, Mr Vijaykant said he entered politics only to serve the people and not to indulge in such petty acts.

He asked why Mr Vadivelu, who alleged that the miscreants, after attacking his house, had attacked his office complex, did not inform the police immediately. The comedian had also failed to note down the registration member of the two-wheelers, in which the group came, he said.

Mr Vijaykant said police has registered cases against him and his supporters purely at the instigation of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and accused the police of acting in a partisan manner.

It is hightime police changed their attitude, he said, alleging they always had the tendency of ''dancing to the tunes'' of the ruling party, who ever was in power.

Mr Vijaykant also questioned the integrity of the police, saying if the police could act swiftly in this case and registered cases against him on the very same day, why they failed to show the similar swiftness when the office of a Tamil Daily was attacked in Madurai, in which three staff members were killed. Stating that it was too early to talk about alliance, the actor politician, replying to a question, said he would announce his party's strategy at the the time of elections. ''Let the elections come..let Parliament meet on October 17 and let us see what happens after that'', he said.

He alleged that after a private sattelite television channcel came forward to telecast live his press conference, the DMK government had ordered power cuts in many districts in the state. ''This is the autocratic rule we have'', he charged.

Mr Vadivelu, in his complaint to the police, alleged that supporters of Mr Vijaykant at the latter's instigation, had attacked his house and office yesterday. They carried out the attack on the eve of the final hearing of a similar attack case that took place on September 12 to prevent him from appearing before the court, he said.

Meanwhile, the comedian appeared before a Magistrate court in Saidapet this morning, when the case came up for hearing, but 13 accused, who were the office bearers of DMDK, failed to turn up.

The Magistrate, after ordering issue of warrants against them, adjoured the hearing to September 29.

Stating that he was prepared to go to jail, if the police arrested him, Mr Vijayakanth said in the event of his arrest, following the complaint given by Mr Vadivelu, his supporters should not indulge in any form of violence. The DMDK volunteers should not behave like the volunteers of DMK and AIADMK, who caused inconvenience to the public by burning buses, staging rail roko agitations and hurling petrol bombs when their leaders were arrested, he appealed.

Instead, his supporters should wear black badges to show that democracy has dead in the country, stage peaceful demonstration in front of the collectorates in districts, as a mark of deterioration of law and order and observe fast to end the ''autocratic rule'' in the state.

Warning police against acting in a partisan manner, he said the police personnel, if found erred, would be exposed after the change of government and they would be made to stand before the law, even if they were on the verge of their retirment, he said.

He said in England, the police enjoyed the freedom to the extent of interrogating even the country's Prime Minister, but in Tamil Nadu, the police has become a puppet in the hands of the ruling party.

In the attack case, the police, instead of succumbing to the pressure of the ruling DMK, should bring to book the real culprits and expose the ruling DMK government, he added.
