Mumbai, Sep 9: The country's 250 million odd mobile users may be able to talk in peace as a new system that can track lost mobile phones and save data was launched here on Tuesday, Sep 9.

The Micro Mobile Controller Systems software, developed by the city-based Micro Technologies features a host of innovations -- receive call logs made by new SIM cards, delete and retrieve facilities to prevent misuse of numbers, immediate logging of new SIM card inserted, location of nearest cell tower of lost handset and International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number as a proof of ownership - to protect mobile handsets and contained data.

''The software is compatible with GSM network and Nokia handsets from it '6600' model upwards. We are currently developing a software compatible with the CDMA and other makes of handset,'' said Milind Lounde, Head, Technical Support, Micro Technologies.

He said the company anticipates the product to be well received in the market, that is growing at the rate of eight to ten million connections a month, and 600 million users by 2011. ''Though focused on the northern, western and northeast region of the country, it will be downable at www.microlmts.net from anywhere in the country for an annual fee of Rs 499.'' To ensure security, the Company has stored the data in undisclosed remote sites and implemented the Internet Access Security (IAS) system. ''Each entry is preserved in a specific domain with only the users name and password remote and each of our customers will be intimated immediately if someone hacks into their data,'' Mr Lounde said.
