Four dalits shot dead in Rajasthan
Jaipur, Jul 10: Four Dalits were shot dead by a group of higher castes in Dhondekapura village in Dholpur district on Wednesday, July 9, police sources said.
A tiff over an old land dispute involving people of Jatavs, a Dalit community, with people of Gujjar and Thakur communities, took an ugly turn with the latter using firearms, the sources said. The victims identified as Ghutai Jatav's sons--Ratan lal, Ramswaroop and Nathi--were going to work, under the National Rural Employment Gurantee Scheme (NREGS), in a group of eight to ten people when the opposite group stopped them, killing three. Besides, a six year old child Jitendra Jatav was also killed in the shootout.
Inspector General of Police. Bharatpur Range, District Police Superintendent and District Collector rushed to the spot.
Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) has been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure.
