Kolkata, Jun 15: Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) on Saturday said that they are ready for talks with the Central Government, and Gorkhaland should not be taken as a separatist demand. GJM general secretary Roshan Giri said that they were ready for talks with the Centre. At the same time, the government should not think that Gorkhaland is a separatist demand. It is within the framework of the Constitution.

GJM is a registered party, he added, while responding to Left Front chairman Biman Bose's comment that it was not invited to the all-party meeting on June 17, as it was unregistered. Earlier today, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said that there was no question of creating a separate state of Gorkhaland.

However, the government was ready to hold talks with GJM without any precondition, he added. GJM comprising about half a dozen parties has been organizing protests over the past few months in the Darjeeling hills demanding action for a separate Gorkhaland state.

The group had revived the demand for Sixth schedule status while the GJM, a breakaway faction of the Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF), opposes it demanding full-fledged statehood.

The West Bengal Government has been resisting the demands for a separate state for the Gorkhas.
