South-west monsoon further advances
Pune, Jun 2: The Southwest monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of Kerala, some parts of coastal Araban sea, most parts of coastal and south interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, entire southwest bay of Bengal and in some more parts of west central bay of Bengal.
Heat wave conditions prevails at isolated places in north Madhya Maharashtra, vidarbha, south coastal Andhra Pradesh and north coastal, Tamil Nadu. The first rain from India's annual monsoon, crucial to millions of farmers and the health of the overall economy, hit the southwest coast on Saturday, May 30. The southwest monsoon sweeps the subcontinent from June to September and is an economic lifeline for the 235 million farmers in India where just 40 percent of arable land is irrigated.
