Mother, son run over by train
Rourkela, May 13: An irate mob disrupted train movement at the Panposh railway station near here after a mother and her son were run over by a speeding train this morning.
The mob squatted on the tracks in protest, obstructing a goods train.
Railway officials said the mother and her two-year-old son were waiting at the station to board a train for Puri.
The mother had a misconception that the Howrah-Ahmedabad Express would halt at Panposh and when the train was approaching the station she went near the edge of the platform to board it.
But she could not withstand the impact of the speeding express and fell on the tracks along with her son. Both were crushed under the wheels.
Police said following the agitation, the New Delhi-Puri Utkal Express was detained at Rourkela. The Railway authorities had provided compensation of Rs 10,000 to the family of the deceased.
