'23 cr spent on irrigation canals in Kashmir'

Srinagar, May 1: An amount of Rs 23 crore would be spent under Command Area Development Programme to strengthen the irrigation canals in the frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir.

This information was given by Union Minister for Water Resources Saifuddin Soz at a public meeting in Kupwara.

Referring to Prime Minister's package, Prof Soz said the benefits of package will positively percolate down to the people.

He said he would discuss the matter of constructing more power projects with the Union Power Minister so that people get adequate power supply round the year.

He assured that he would recommend a high school, a hospital and a bank for Khurhama area and announced Rs 10 lakh out of his Member Parliament (MP) Local Area Development (LAD) fund for the high school.

Mr Soz also announced Rs 5 lakh for the construction of a food godown.

However, he cautioned the people against those out to mislead them with their hollow slogans.
