According to a BHEL release here, this was the first-ever overseas order of BHEL, Tiruchirapalli, for its environmental-friendly CFBC boilers for utility application. The order for the boilers and auxiliaries had been placed by Koniambo Nickel SAS, an overseas Joint Venture of the globally diversified mining group Xstrata PLC, Switzerland, and a New Caledonian company.

The scope of supply included pressure parts such as boiler drum, super-heater, reheater and economiser; non-pressure parts; and other related components and field instruments. BHEL's Ranipet plant would supply fans, air preheaters and bag house, while BHEL Piping Centre, Chennai, would supply boiler integral piping. The equipment would be manufactured in conformity with the latest European standards, the release said.

These boilers would form part of the Captive Power Plant for Koniambo Nickel Project. The order would be executed on a tight delivery schedule of 27 months for the first boiler and 30 months for the second, the release added.
