Misty Woods goes eco-friendly

Mysore, Mar 9: 'The Misty Woods,' an eco-friendly resort on the top of the hills in the South Coorg recognised by the Department of Tourism in Karnataka has embarked on an expansion plan costing Rs one crore. Located in a remote area about 23 km from the Virajpet in Coorg District amid a sprawling 120 acre coffee plantation and lush green mountains draped in mist,the resort is free from pollution and hustle bustle of the outside world with a rich aroma of coffee and pepper permeating the atmosphere. It is owned by Leading Coffee Planter Vij Johan who started this venutre three years ago at an investment of Rs one crore with cottages built in Kerala style architecture and according to the Vastu Sastra.

Speaking to visiting reporters, Mr Johan said with an additional 15 units being constructed, the number of cottages will go up to 30. The resort will offer facilities like Ayurveda massage, swimming pool besides a conference hall-cum-recrecreations centre. The intention was to serve those who liked the natural beauty of the Coorg. During the last three years, the occupancy rate was more then 60 per cent with several big corporates selecting the place as venue for meetings and conferences.

The unique thatched restaurant caters to every taste bud offering exclusive cusines of Kerala, Coorg, North India and China.
Mr Johan said the resort had no TV and telephone facilities for the visitors to help them enjoy the nature. The resort would also organise cultural events during the weekends with traditional Coorg dances besides participation of the tribals in events to entertain the visitors regularly. A museum would be added to the resort for visitors to know the various cultures and paintings of the region.

A trek through the forest, a tour around the plantation and taking a peek at the Arabian Sea near Kannur Coast on a clear day were some of the attractions. In the evening, one could enjoy chill in the warmth of the campfire.

In Coorg District there were more then 500 home stay facilities with many more coming up to attract visitors from across the country, he said.
