Silchar, Feb 25: Suspected Bru (Reang) militants today abducted three people at gun-point from a remote village near Karimganj district of Assam.

Police said two of the kidnapped people were employees of a bamboo plantation while another is a local villager. A group of ten armed militants whisked away the three, from a remote village near Kotamoni under Patharkandi police station, when they were on their way to work. Security forces, led by Karimganj Superintendent of Police Mihir Goswami, rushed to the spot, about 100 km from here, and started combing operations.

This bordering area of Assam is dominated by militants belonging to the United Liberation Front of Barak Valley (ULFBV), a Bru outfit, engaged in extortion and kidnapping over the past decade.
