Mumbai, Feb 22 (UNI) A probationary officer with Indian Revenue Service (IRS) was arrested by the city police allegedly for cheating.
Assistant Police Inspector S Joshi, attached to Sion police station, said probationary officer Priyesh Bheda was arrested by them on February 19 on charges of cheating and was given judicial custody.
The complainant V Lakshmi, a housewife from Wadala, and Bheda were acquaintances and lived in the same area, but were not in touch for the last few years as Lakshmi had gone to the US with her family.
Meanwhile, Bheda had been operating her account in Union Bank of India at Sion branch for the last few years and had applied for many IPO shares because he did not want his activities to be known as he was appearing for the civil services examination and would have to divulge the same to the relevant authorities.
On her return from the US, Lakshmi was aghast to know that Bheda had operated her account by forging her signature and applied for shares of various companies without her knowledge. Following which, she lodged a complaint against Bheda with the Sion police station.
Mr Joshi said following Bheda's arrest, he moved a bail application before the City, Civil and Sessions Court, which granted him bail.
