Karnataka: Farmers stage dharna demanding release of water
Mysore, Feb 11: More than 200 members of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) from Mysore and Mandya Districts today staged dharna in front of Deputy Commissioner and Command Area Development Authority (CADA) offices demanding release of water from reservoirs.
The agitating farmers, joined by Florculturists from surrounding villages, were demanding release of water from Gorur Dam, built across the river Hemavathi and Kabini Dam into canals to save standing crops. They also demanded regular supply of water in rural areas to save livestock and to fill tanks and lakes in the region.
The
agitators
also
complained
harassment
by
the
traffic
and
civil
police
when
flower
growers
and
sellers
bring
their
produce
to
the
market.
The
farmers,
who
came
in
procession
shouting
slogans,
first
staged
dharna
in
front
of
DC
office
and
moved
to
CADA
office
also
demanding
supply
of
fertilisers,
pesticides
and
transportation
at
affordable
cost.
