Governor condoles Baba Amte's demise

Mumbai, Feb 9: Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna today described Baba Amte as one of the greatest social reformer saints who restored dignity and self-respect to people afflicted with leprosy.

In a message to Baba Amte's son Vikas Amte, he said that carrying foward his mission to serve people would be a real tribute to Baba Amte, a release said. He belonged to the shining tradition of Vidarbha's social-reformer saints, including Rashtra Santtokdoji Maharaj and Sant Gagdge Baba. He dedicated his entire life to the cause of resorting dignity and self-respect to people suffering from leprosy and in enabling them to earn their livelhood, he added in the release.

Mr Krishna stated that through his Bharat Jodo Abhiyan, Baba Amte aroused the consciousness of people to work for unity of the nation.

''On behalf of the people of Maharashtra and on my behalf, I salute the life and work of this great patriot Saint from Maharashtra'' he added in the release.
