Imphal, Jan 14: The All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) has asked the newspaper editors in the state to publish insurgency-related news ''judiciously''.

Recently, the incidents of journalists being threatened and intimidated by militants had been rising. AMWJU joint secretary Biren said the decision was taken after day-long deliberations yesterday at the Manipur Press Club. There had also been frequent closures of newspapers in the state following the militant threats.

The AMWJU had earlier resolved not to publish any news related to the charges and counter-charges of the militant organisations. However, it was decided that the editors would use their discretion to ascertain whether any news deserved publication or not, Mr Biren said.

The AMWJU also decided to maintain a united stand to face any threats and appealed to all to cooperate and respect the freedom of the press.
