Nandigram, Dec 23: At least 79 live bombs were recovered, in a joint operation by the CRPF and police, from a brick kiln near Talpati Channel on the Nandigram-Khejuri border this afternoon.

Responding to information that there may be more graveyards and skeletons near the Talpati channel, the CRPF and police dug up sections of the channel bank this afternoon and found live bombs, Assistant Commandant CRPF A K Upadhaya said and added that the bombs had been taken to the local police station.

BUPC Convener and AITC MLA Sisir Adhikary said they had yesterday placed a demand before the CRPF for digging the area. Mr Adhikary alleged that these bombs were kept stashed there for future attacks by CPM activists.

Meanwhile, Mr Adhikary said they had protested against removal of CRPF DIG Alok Raj from the area and demanded his reinstatement.
