Unification must include all Naga tribes: Naga Hoho
Kohima, Dec 4: The Naga Hoho, the apex traditional body of all Naga tribes, has asserted that any kind of unification must be inclusive of all Nagas and it must be achieved in confirmation with the political aspirations of the Naga people and the ongoing political negotiations.
In a statement issued here today, Naga Hoho president Bengmayang Jamir and general secretary Neingulo Krome said a consultation was held here with the leaders of all tribes, various constituent bodies and mass-based civil society organisations and social institutions on December 2, where it was resolved that any kind of unification must include all Naga tribes.
The Naga Hoho also conveyed its understanding that for any meaningful unification to take place, there should be clear-cut endorsement from the top leadership of all the Naga underground groups.
Besides tribal Hohos, the meeting was attended by the Naga Peoples' Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR), Naga Students' Federation (NSF), Naga Mothers' Association (NMA) and Naga Council.
The meeting deliberated on the prevailing situation with particular reference to the recent move for unification among the Naga underground groups in a spirit of ''heart to heart talks.'' The Naga Hoho appreciated the Sumi Hoho for elaborating some of the reasons and circumstances under which the recent unification move was launched, as well as the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) for sharing their experience of a similar initiative several years ago, the statement added.
