Jindal to open 600 retail outlets

Hubli, Dec 4: Jindal Steel Works Ltd plans to open 600 JSW steel retail outlets in the country in the next two years, Company Vice Chairman and Managing Director Sajjan Jindal said today.

Talking to newsmen here, he said that the retail outlets would be first of its kind in the country and its main aim was to reach customers with company' price list and sell best quality steel to customers.

Mr Jindal said that China uses 500 million tonnes of steel annually but in India only 50 tonnes of steel was sold as the steel prices varies from company to company. "This was one of the reason why JSW wanted to open its retail outlets in the country." He said exclusive JSW showrooms would have on display and sell all JSW steel ranging from HR coils to colour-coated steel long products.

Mr Jindal said JSW aimed to provide an unique experience of buying steel products through branded distribution channels.

"Concept of shoppe originated from fact that we wanted the customer to get the right quality of product at the right price and at the right place," he added.

He said that the shoppe was an effort to create a customer friendly ambiance the interface with customer will result creating a strong relationship of trust and reliability of the customer with JSW steel.

He said by March 2008 around 25 such outlets would be established predominantly in South and West India.

He said that the company's production was around 4.8 million tonnes in two plants in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and the production would be 8 million tonnes per annum by next year.

He said with steel plants coming up in West Bengal and Jharkhand States, The production would touch 30 million tonnes by 2020.
