CCEA approves Krishna drinking water proj

New Delhi, Nov 27: The cabinet committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today gave its approval for the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project Phase-II for augmentation of water supply in Hyderabad city.

The Project is to cost Rs.817.62 crore. The expenditure incurred up to March 31,2006, on the project is Rs.211.12 crore. Thus, the cost for reimbursement under Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renwal Mission will be Rs.606.50 crore and release of Additional Central Assistance will be to the extent of Rs.212.275 crore. This would be the share of the Union Government in the manner prescribed under the guidelines.

Briefing newspersons, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said augmentation of additional 90 Mgd (410 Mld) of treated water to the city of Hyderabad and its urban agglomeration, including surrounding municipalities, would go a long way in bridging the gap between demand and supply. It would facilitate increase in present 80 lpcd to 150 lpcd required as the per the norms in the surrounding municipalities.

It would also facilitate taking care of the water requirements of projects like Hyderabad International Airport, FAB City, Hardware sector, Textile Sector, IT and other Industrial sectors.

Mr Chidambram said the project is likely to be completed by November, 2007.
