New Delhi, Nov 22: The BJP today took exception to the statement of ruling CPI-M in West Bengal asking exiled Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen to move over to another state and said it would amount to surrendering to fundamentalist forces. BJP Parliamentary Party Spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said this kind of reaction by a ruling party in West Bengal was unfortunate.

The BJP supported not just extension of visa for the writer hounded in her own country but permanent residential rights and citizenship.

If CPI-M's ''surrender'' is a cue, it would lead to chaos and fundamentalist forces would rise their ugly heads in all states of the country, he reasoned.

He said India is known for giving shelter to people facing persecution in their countries right from exiled Tibetan leader Dalai Lama.

Another senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi sought to know why noted actress Shabana Azmi and her husband Javed Akhtar were silent on Nandigram violence while they created a ruckus after riots in Gujarat.

Alleging that there was a conspiracy to create communal troubles across the country for polarisation of votes, Mr Malhotra said the doctored CDs of Tehelka was one such attempt. The Congress made the riots an issue five years ago and they wanted to make it one more time repeating the same allegation after five years, he said.

About the Government bringing a Bill to amend the AIIMS Act, he said it was for the first time that a Bill was amended to remove the Director of AIIMS. ''This is a black day for the country and its autonomy of academic institutions. The Director of AIIMS P Venugopal is a Padma decorated respected scientist. The Health Ministry for the last few years had stopped working on burning issues like spread of AIDS, female foeticide or setting up AIIMS at six places.

Removing the Director from his post is the sole motive in bringing in the Bill,'' he alleged.
