Bangalore, Nov 21: Senior Janata Dal(S) leader M P Prakash today said his party legislators were ready to support the Congress if it were to explore possibilities of forming a new government in Karnataka. Speaking to newsmen here he said formation of a new government was possible in the prevailing political situation in the state though the President's Rule had been imposed.

"There is still time for approving the presidential proclamation in the Parliament and the Congress, if it really wanted, could put in its efforts to form a government," he felt.

Replying to queries he said over 35 MLAs had either telephoned to him or personally met him and discussed the idea. Even the Party supremo H D Devegowda was not averse to this idea as he himself had earlier suggested to explore such possibilities, he recalled saying that majority of the legislators did not want to face the elections for the present.

Mr Prakash said he had not met any Congress leader so far, after the Yeddyurappa government fell, to discuss the idea. However, if an initiative came from the Congress' side, he would not be against it.

"Finally, if there was no positive response from Congress then there will be no alternative but to face polls," he added.

To another question he said though he had decided not to contest the next general elections, he would remain in active politics.
