Lankan housemaids in suicide pact in Kuwait

Dubai, Nov 8: Three Sri Lankan maids in Kuwait have been admitted to a hospital following a failed attempt to commit suicide.

The maids, aged 52, 32 and 30 years, are reportedly working for a family in Bayan and they allegedly consumed large quantities of medicine pills to end their lives, Al-Watan daily reported.

Mystery surrounds the behavior of the maids, particularly since they attempted to end their lives together.

Police are waiting for the maids to recover to interrogate them.

Indian and other Asian maids report abuse by sponsors on a regular basis in Kuwait where the Indian embassy used to run a hostel for runaway maids in distress.
