Reliance launches Blackberry smart phone in India

Mumbai, Sep 10: Telecom major Reliance Communications (Rcom) and Research In Motion (RIM) today announced the launch of Blackberry 8830 World Edition smartphone in India.

Priced at Rs 33,900, Blackberry 8300 will allow interoperability between the data efficient CDMA and GSM network and the first internet based trading capability on BlackBerry Smartphones in India.

Blackberry 8830 will provide the industry leading email and messaging capabilities along with premium phone features, web browsing and other mobile productivity applications.

On the enterprise segment, for the unlimited data plan will be charged Rs 899 per month and in professional segment the charge will be Rs 1099 per month.

This apart, Rcom has tied up with Bloomberg for their service which will be made available to suscriber via Reliance mobile.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Prakash Bajpai, President, Enterprise solution Reliance said, ''For the first time in the country, we are launching Blackberry service with applications such as internet based online trading and Blackberry on prepaid.'' The Blackberry 8830 and 8703 handsets will be available in 16 cities to start with and will be expanded to other cities later.

The service will be available across 10,000 towns and three lakh villages in the country.
